Why cotton?
Why is cotton the best material for women's underwear?
Cotton underwear is made from the natural fibres of the cotton plant, which are spun into threads and then woven or knit into a breathable fabric, perfect for everyday wear.
It's breathable:
This natural fibre allows for excellent air circulation and moisture wicking, whilst preventing heat build-up, making it a top choice for freshness in various settings. More breathable underwear can mean less odour and less bacteria.
It's better for hormone balance.
Synthetic and plastic-based fibres can include harmful BPAs and chemicals which can affect your hormone balance. Our bits absorb the chemicals in the products that touch it, so it’s better to keep it natural.
It's hypoallergenic.
Cotton is naturally hypoallergenic, reducing the risk of skin irritation and allergic reactions. Its breathability also means it's less likely to harbour bacteria than less breathable fabrics.
It's biodegradable and renewable.
Cotton is biodegradable and comes from a renewable resource making it more eco-friendly that synthetic alternatives.
What other options are there?
There are other breathable and soft alternatives like Modal, but modal is still semi-synthetic which involves a chemical process to regenerate the cellulose into a fibre.
Many brands opt for cotton-blends that use 95% cotton and 5% spandex to add some extra electricity to the fabric. But, we think they're just commitment-phobes. If you want to keep your bits fresh, why not go all in?
Otherwise, most underwear is made of synthetic and non-breathable fabrics like viscose, nylon or polyamide.
How to take care of your cotton.
Treat your cotton with care.
Without elastane for stretch, cotton is more fragile. Please do not wring your cotton when wet or wear panty liners as the adhesive pulls at the seems (panty liners defeat the point of your bits breathing too!).
How to wash your cotton underwear.
Wash on a 30°C cycle and do not tumble dry.
Will my cotton underwear shrink in the wash?
Like many fabrics, cotton will only shrink if you wash it on very high temperatures. A bit like denim, cotton can feel a bit tight and stiff when it has first been washed. But, as you wear it, it will loosen up.
